Hans Mindnich takes top honor at Snowboarder’s Superpark 17

More than 300 of the world’s best and brightest snowboarding talents gathered on Oregon’s Mount Bachelor to showcase their skills in Snowboarder magazine’s massive Superpark, the biggest proving ground in the sport.   Every year, a handful of snowboard park-making crews install massive riding features, like hips, jumps, walls, and rail slides that entice the world’s best riders to Oregon. Among the big attractions this year were The Seven Springs Hip, a 20-foot-tall, 80-foot-long jump, and The Loon 70-footer, another massive hit. The Woodward Step-Up also attracted a lot of attention, as did the giant Woodward’s Rail Plaza. There were countless standouts among the competitors, including Scotty Vine, who pulled a one-footed double backflip off the hip. But in the end, it’s a winner-take-all event. The Gatorade Superpark 17 Standout award goes to the one rider who dominates all week. Naturally, the competition was fierce this year, but it was 20-year-old Hans Mindnich who surprised everyone with his incredible style, huge variety of tricks, and versatility on the massive jumps and in the rail plaza. It was a welcome award for the unsponsored kid from Vermont, who is likely to be fielding offers soon.
