Summer in full swing at Vans U.S. Open of Surfing

Hundreds of the world’s best surfers have invaded Huntington Beach, California, for the Vans U.S. Open of Surfing. The annual gathering has a rich tradition that dates back to the 1960s. The Open gives surfers on the World Qualifying Series their dream crack at elite World Tour stars like Kelly Slater, Jordy Smith, and Julian Wilson. Slater and Wilson won in 2011 and 2012, respectively. Local Brett Simpson was the last qualifying surfer to take the Open title.
