7 memorable public marriage proposals by action sports stars

Do you smell that? It’s love in the air at the 2016 Vans U.S. Open of Surfing.

Pro surfer Sebastian Zietz hired a plane to propose to his girlfriend Krisy Fulp on Friday in Huntington Beach, the place where they met four years ago. Raising the bar for all men (and women) around the world, Zietz and Fulp own a gym together in Kauai and have now taken that next step together.

After witnessing the proposal go down firsthand (check out the whole story by GrindTV here), we decided to dig up some other memorable public marriage proposals by action sports stars.

1. Rob Dyrdek and Bryiana Noelle Flores

Easily one of the most elaborate proposals by an action-sports star, skateboarder Rob Dyrdek proposed to his girlfriend, Bryiana Noelle Flores, at Disneyland in April 2015.

At the “Aladdin” show (Flores’ favorite), Dyrdek left the audience to go to the bathroom, then came back to the show riding a life-sized elephant prop and asked the genie to grant him three wishes. His last one was for something that would show his love for Flores forever, and he was handed a ring and popped the question on stage. They’re now expecting their first child together.

2. Pink and Carey Hart

Back in June 2005, motocross legend Carey Hart and pop star Pink headed to California’s Mammoth Motocross event. Hart asked Pink to do his pit boarding, and during one of the laps she wrote “Will you marry me?” on it. He kept going and on another lap she wrote “serious” underneath and he sped over to her and said yes.

3. Jordy Smith and Lyndall Jarvis

Pro surfer Jordy Smith and model Lyndall Jarvis are a South African match made in heaven. When the time was right back in July 2013, Smith pulled Jarvis out for a tandem surf on a SUP one day, despite the fact that she doesn’t surf.

He tucked the ring underneath his watch in his wetsuit and they paddled out. Once they caught a wave, he proposed and Jarivs was so excited she flipped the board over. Smith lost the ring momentarily, but found it pretty quickly, and the two were happily engaged.

4. Travis Pastrana and Lyn-Z Adams-Hawkins

Of course one of the greatest living action-sports stars would propose to his girlfriend at his very own Nitro Circus Live show. Back in 2011 at a June show at the MGM in Las Vegas, Travis Pastrana followed pro skater and girlfriend Lyn-Z Adams-Hawkins down the MegaRamp and proposed right there for all to see on the big screen. And yes, their children are going to be action-sports stars one day.

5. Sebastian Zietz and Krisy Fulp

Caught in action by GrindTV on site at the Vans U.S. Open on July 29, 2016, surfer Sebastian Zietz went all out in Huntington Beach. He tricked his girlfriend Krisy Fulp into going out on the pier for a photo shoot, and while they were doing that, a plane with a banner flew by asking Fulp to marry him.

6. Jonathan Cheever and Maria Ramberger

Just like Seabass, snowboarder Jonathan Cheever used his sport’s biggest stage to propose to his girlfriend. At the 2016 Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado, Cheever proposed to his girlfriend Maria Ramberger, who has represented Austria in the Olympics for … snowboarding. He wrote the question on the bottom of a board and made a great story at Winter X.

7. Julian Wilson and Ashley Osborne

Surfer Julian Wilson is a classy gent. During a vacation to Paris with model Ashley Osborne in the fall of 2015, Wilson popped the big question. They were riding bikes along the Seine, hiked up on top of the Eiffel Tower and were strolling along in front of the iconic Notre Dame cathedral when he got down on one knee and the rest is history — including their Armani photo shoot together.
