Cypress, CA (September 6, 2013) – Vans once again partners with Los Angeles-based indie label IAMSOUND to present the Classic & City Events series to celebrate Vans' iconic Classics footwear collection across the globe. The free, all ages shows will kick-off in the U.S. with events taking place in Austin, San Francisco and Boston. The series will run over the span of three weeks in September and October featuring live performances from critically acclaimed musical acts, an interactive video installation, and giveaways of customized Vans Classics and limited edition socks and tees.
Classic & Austin, the first event in the series, will take place on Saturday, September 21 at the Mohawk, located in the heart of Austin's storied music scene. Renowned hip hop and electronic music producer AraabMUZIK will headline, supported by rising Swedish electro-pop act Kate Boy.
The next stop, Classic & San Francisco, will be hosted at Slim's on Friday, September 27 featuring San Francisco native, Nick Waterhouse as the headliner bringing his blend of R&B, soul and jazz. Nick will be supported by local favorites Cool Ghouls.
Classic & Boston will close out the U.S. series on Friday, October 11 at the Paradise Rock Club. Indie rock titans The Walkmen will headline following the opening from Oberhofer.
In addition to the music performances, local artists from each city have been invited to customize Vans Classics along with limited edition tees and socks which will be given out during each event. This year, artists Sophie Roach (Austin), Serena Mitnik-Miller (San Francisco) and Brian Butler (Boston) will showcase their customized products in their respective city. Additionally, interactive visual installations have been created for each location by acclaimed visual effects specialist Whoman, who has previously worked with musical acts such as Aphex Twin, Flying Lotus and Nosaj Thing, to create stunning customized laser and light displays for live shows.
With the success of last year's inaugural series, the Vans Classic & City Events is back for a second year traveling the world showcasing local music and art in celebration of Vans' heritage footwear, Classics. Popular bands, DJ's and emerging artists will be featured at each city stop. Guests will have the chance to win a pair of customized Vans Classics by their local artist, as well as enjoy the sounds of bands that are beloved by each city.
