Standup paddleboarding is the fastest-growing water sport in the world. Largely because of how easy it is for beginners to grasp, millions of new enthusiasts are drawn to it every year.
Unfortunately, it is also one of the least convenient sports to adopt due to the often massively cumbersome boards. But a new Kickstarter campaign is hoping to take the hassle out of paddleboarding by offering the world’s first fully integrated self-inflating standup paddleboard.
SipaBoards, the company that first dreamed up the self-inflating paddleboard last year, realized that in order to spread paddleboarding to the masses, they needed to create a design that was easily transportable. Inflatable paddleboards have been around for a while, but many require tedious amounts of pumping, which for some can feel more tiring than actually paddling the board.
The company has developed the SipaBoards Air, an inflatable paddleboard that comes fully stocked with a rechargeable air compressor built into the body of the board. That compressor, when activated by a magnetic switch, fully inflates the 11-foot board in just five minutes time.
And that promise seems to have plenty of people excited: Just three weeks after it launched, the SipaBoards Air’s Kickstarter campaign has already raised over $87,000 on its initial fundraising goal of $100,000.
The SipaBoards Air comes in thee models — the All-Rounder, Cruiser and Balance models — which are available for $940 on the company’s Kickstarter campaign, with pre-orders expected to ship by October.
