The Red Bull Hare Scramble is known as the toughest single day race in the world, and for good reason. The “Hard Enduro” event starts in an open pit mine in Erzberg, Austria. Right after the opening gun competitors have to run straight up the near vertical “Iron Mountain” rock wall and then speed across narrow forest paths and giant boulder fields. This year heavy rains made the conditions soggy, muddy, slippery, and even more treacherous than normal. Out of the 500 guys who entered, only 14 finished the race within the 4-hour time limit. Graham Jarvis won by 19 minutes and looked relieved more than anything that he had survived when he crossed the finish line.
