The sixth round of the Australian Motocross Series was held in Albury, NSW. It was a six-hour drive for the team to the track on Saturday morning to get everything set up for the day. Once we arrived I set out toward the track to take a peak at the course. My excitement for Sunday’s race grew as I walked the track – I knew the track would be fun after some rain the week before which meant moist dirt and good lines.
During timed qualifying on Sunday morning I started out a little rough suffering a big crash in the early practice. I had to pull into the mechanics area and get a few things straightened out on my bike after the crash before I could return to set a fast lap time. Once I reentered the course I immediately turned the fastest lap which I held for first gate pick in moto one.
The concrete start gates were really slick for the first moto from all the rain which made me a little nervous of my tires spinning off the start. Luckily, I got a great jump with two fellow KTM riders and the three KTM’s led the pack around the first turn. I passed my teammate Ryan Marmont for the lead on the first lap and continued to pull away. I was able to pull a comfortable gap before settling into a good pace and taking the first moto win.
For the second moto, the gates had dried quite a bit and I was feeling more confident in my starting ability. I pulled the holeshot as the gate dropped and began to lead the first lap before the race was red flagged and we had to restart. I almost didn’t believe it, but on the restart I grabbed another holeshot and led the riders around the first turn. I continued to put time on the pack and went on to win moto 2.
The third and final moto was another success story. In untypical PJ Larsen fashion I pulled another holeshot! I sprint the whole moto and got a nice lead to take the win and finish 1-1-1 for the day. I was happy to increase my points lead at this round. I have won the last six motos in a row and now
ave an 84 point lead for the championship. I can’t wait to see if I can keep the streak alive at the next round in Moree
