Scuba diver videotapes scary encounter with shark

Scott MacNichol was fortunate to have escaped without injury Saturday when an eight-foot shark apparently mistook his underwater video camera for food and tried repeatedly to bite the device as he was scuba diving off Eastport, Maine.

Fortunately, the camera was turned on and MacNichol, who was 30 feet beneath the surface, was able to capture an understandably shaky sequence in which you can see the estimated 300-pound porbeagle shark — and its imposing teeth — lunging toward and bumping the camera. If you listen closely you can hear MacNichol screaming.
