Hospital X-ray shows spear that went through the mouth of Elisangela Borborema Rosa, who is expected to make a full recovery.

A 28-year-old Brazilian woman is expected to make a full recovery, miraculously, after being shot in the mouth by her husband with a spear gun.

The fishing spear or harpoon, said to have been fired accidentally as Elisangela Borborema Rosa’s husband was cleaning the weapon, went through her mouth and struck her cervical spine.

She was rushed from the couple’s home in the coastal city of Arraial do Cabo to a nearby hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery.

Neurosurgeon Allan da Costa, according to The Independent, said the spear came within one centimeter of killing the woman.

Local police are investigating but do not suspect foul play.

“Everything indicates it was an accident, but we are investigating,” a police spokeswoman said. “We don’t think the husband tried to kill her. But once she fully recovers we will be able to get a clearer picture of what happened.”
