A French freeskier posted a video of the terrifying moment he was swept downhill in an avalanche he accidentally triggered at the La Plagne resort in the French Alps:
The video was posted Friday to Facebook and has already accrued over 780,000 views. It shows the incredible fortune of 21-year-old skier Guillaume Anton as he somehow stayed atop the rushing snow slide and was never fully buried.
Anton posted the video saying he realized how lucky he got and stating he hoped that it would serve to persuade others to stay safe on the mountain.
“The mountain is a magical place that can take us very far. However it is still … very dangerous,” Anton wrote in his Facebook post. “I’m well aware of the chance that I’ve had.”
LaPlagnet lists the avalanche risk in La Plagne and much of the surrounding mountains as “high” currently.
The Sun is reporting that one snowboarder is dead and another two are missing after being swallowed by an avalanche Tuesday at the Valfrejus ski resort south of La Plagne.
The Sun also reports that an avalanche occurred in-bounds at the nearby resort of Tignes on Tuesday, and that while multiple resort patrons were affected by the slide, nobody died from the avalanche.
