Leo Taillefer wins GoPro Line of the Winter

Leo Taillefer wins GoPro Line of the Year contest Transworld Snowboarding France

Leo Taillefer won the first-ever GoPro Line of the Year contest for his hair-raising line in Val D’Isere.

This season, GoPro and TRANSWORLD SNOWBOARDING decided to launch the Line of the Winter contest.

The idea was simple: pick a line, film yourself riding it and submit your video. Each month from December through April, one line was picked to win $1,000, and in the summer, one entry won the $20,000 grand prize.

That winner is France’s Leo Taillefer, who was surprised with the news on Friday. Check out his reaction:

Leo thought he was getting on a Skype call to explain his history with his beloved Val D’Isere, his hometown where he filmed the Line of the Winter winning footage.

“It is my home resort where I grew up with all my family,” Taillefer said. “Whenever I travel around the world to ski, every time I am coming back here, it’s a place where I am happy to ski.”

Taillefer beat out more than 800 entries to win Line of the Year for his jaw-dropping descent of Val D’Isere, and according to TRANSWORLD SNOWBOARDING, it was “his creativity and the technical difficulty of skiing this narrow canyon [Val D’Isere] flawlessly” that set him apart from the rest.
