A preview of Snowboard on the Block this weekend in Denver

People are already scoring turns in a few western locations, but snowboarding is making winter official with a block party set to blow the roof off of downtown Denver this weekend.

Snowboard on the Block takes over the Denver Performing Arts Complex Oct. 14-15, bringing the season’s best snowboard films, a three-story rail jam feature and musical acts Chief Keef, Wolfmother, Marty Party and Afroman with it.

To paint a bigger of picture of exactly what storm is rolling through the Mile High City this weekend, we preview five of our favorite snowboard flicks highlighting the Snowboard on the Block lineup.

Tickets are still available for this weekend’s festivities, so make sure not to miss out on Snowboard on the Block.

Full Moon — Runway Films

There have been a couple of all-female snowsport videos in the past few years, but none hit as hard as Full Moon. Connecting the current stars like Jamie Anderson and Leanne Pelosi with past heroes like Robin Van Gyn and Hana Beaman, Full Moon brings women’s snowboarding full circle.

In addition to some awesome archival footage, this movie also casts the legends shredding alongside the future, making for one epic ride.

Reckless Abandon — Bode Merrill

There aren’t many people out there doing it like Bode Merrill. Mr. One-footer himself has been putting his own spin on snowboarding for nearly a decade now and continues prove that there isn’t a type of terrain or feature that he can’t put his own stamp on.

When the teaser is good enough to be an entire movie, you know that it needs to get added to the rotation. Reckless Abandon hits the mark … and then some.

An original production by the crew over at SNOWBOARDER magazine, Resolution, covers the whole snowboard gamut, bringing together big backcountry lines, with some of the tightest urban riding put out this season.

It’s not often you get to see the stylish air presence of Danny Davis stacked next to the creativity of street savant Louif Paradis and a hand full of others, but it’s not often you get every Colorado ripper in one venue, now is it?

The Manboys Movie — Shredbots

The Shredbots crew is all about consistency, as in they consistently serve up something we’ve never seen before in the biggest way possible.

If that’s not reason enough to check out the hybrid Norwegian/Canadian posse, there’s always the gratuitous urban carnage and handful of backcountry booters that will make you want to drop what you’re doing and move to the mountains — forever. There’s always that.

Wildcats Never Die — Wildcats

You know what they say, “Two years to film, twice as good.” While that may not be the case, the newest project from the Wildcats (the OG crew with Devun Walsh and JF Pelchat), might live up to the billing.

Featuring a classic cast along with grassroots compadres like Iikka Backstrom and Ryan Tiene, Wildcats Never Die proves that old dudes still shred — and party — harder than you.
