3 Ways To Help Indonesian Earthquake Victims

From SIMA: We've received a number of calls and emails about emergency relief help for the earthquake victims in Sumatra and wanted to pass on some areas where you, your company and employees can help:

1. This Wednesday, October 14, there will be a celebrity bartender event at the "A" Restaurant in Newport Beach where tips and donations for earthquake relief will be collected on behalf of Surf Aid. Celebrity bartenders will include Sean Collins and Jonno Wells from Surfline; Rob Machado; Bob Hurley; Pat O'Connell and more. Here are the details:

"A" restaurant is inviting you to a fun filled evening benefiting Surf Aid and it's relief efforts for the recent Padang, Sumatra earthquake.

Guest bartenders Rob Machado, Sean Collins, Jonno Wells from Surfline, along with Bob Hurley and McG, and some other very special guests will be serving you cool and refreshing beverages of your choice.

The evening is informal and kicks off at 6PM. No RSVP or tickets required. No silent auction, but donations received with gratitude…..We will have a tip jar for Surf Aid on the bar and gladly accept cash and checks……..please bring your friends and your smile. Please make checks out to Surf Aid.

This recent quake was severe and tragic…….Wednesday Nite is another great chance for our industry to give back to the victims of the quake and the wonderful people of Padang and the Mentawai Islands.

A large percentage of the visual imagery that drives our industry comes from this part of the world. Let's show them our appreciation.

2. Several companies have asked about donating clothing and shoes/sandals to victims. The Red Cross is always an option, but if you're looking for a more direct way to get clothing/footwear to victims, Matt George's non-profit aid relief group (SERF – Surfers Education and Relief Force) is on the ground in Indo right now and he has a contact at the airport in Padang. Matt is able to receive product and get it distributed directly to those in need. Anyone interested can contact me (sean@sima.com) and I'll put you in touch with executive director at SERF to make it happen.

3. Finally, everyone should know that Surf Aid International is one of the most active and effective aid groups working in Indo today and a trusted organization. The Surf Aid's U.S. offices are looking to raise $300,000 for the relief efforts. One of the best ways you can help is to put one of their fundraising banners on your company website and/or send your employees to the Surf Aid website where you can quickly and easily make donations directly online.

To find out how to put Surf Aid banners on your website, contact their development director, Javier Guerrero at javier@surfaidinternational.org. To donate directly online, go to www.surfaidinternational.org.
