6th Annual Donnie Solomon Pro-Am and American Red Cross Memorial Surfing Contest to be held at California Street in Ventura January 12& 13, 2002

Ventura, Calif. January 12 & 13, 2002¿California’s best surfers will get a chance to showcase their talent as the 6th Annual Donnie Solomon and American Red Cross Memorial surfing contest returns to California Street on January 12 & 13.

The Pro-Am (which will feature some of the top surfers from around the U.S.) will take place all day Jan.12. With $1,500 for first place and a rising swell on the way the level of surfing should be fun to watch! The USSF Western Region amateur divisions will follow immediately following the big boys and continuing into to all day Jan.13.

The 6th Annual Donnie Solomon Pro-Am and American Red Cross memorial will be offering $5,000 in cash and prizes for California’s top surfers such as defending champ and world tour standout Tim Curran (Oxnard), Bobby Martinez (Santa Barbara), Chris Drummy (San Clemente), Mike Parsons (San Clemente), Jesse Merle Jones (Hawaii), Keoni Cuccia (Ventura), Sean Hayes (Ventura), and Adam Virs (Ventura). Invitations were extended to World Tour competitors Kelly Slater (Florida), Rob Machado (San Diego), Pat O’Connell (Dana Point), and Taylor Knox (Carlsbad).

All product donations will be raffled off to the public with benefits going to the American Red Cross of Ventura County¿the last 3 years of this event have raised $5,000 for the American Red Cross Foundation of Ventura County. Will start with a paddle-out ceremony beginning at 6:30 a.m. Competition will run from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., January 12, and then with the USSF Western Region amateur divisions following ASAP. More than 20,000 spectators are anticipated for the event. Parking is available along the contest site and directly behind at the Derby club.
