Pro skate contests, runway show, useful seminars and fundraisers round out 3 busy days at ASR, January 25-27th.
San Juan Capistrano, CA (January 18, 2007) — ASR arrives in San Diego, January 25-27th with a sold-out show floor, bangin’ special events line up, and thousands of new products. Between writing orders, trend watching, hunting down new brands and hanging with industry influencers, make time to check out the contests, runways and fundraisers that help to make ASR a unique show experience. On the business end, ASR’s free seminar series provides a forum where retailers and exhibitors gather to get the scoop on trends, reinforce business basics and discuss the industry’s future.
Putting the spotlight on individuals who innovate, and create products to further surfing, ASR and SIMA have created the Board Builders Pavilion — A central, open area set aside on the main show floor, specifically for the surf hard goods market. Over 20 surfboard shapers and surfboard material producers have signed on to exhibit in the ASR/SIMA Board Builders Pavilion. Inside the pavilion, The Reef Board Build-off will showcase board designs from 13 local shapers including, Rob Machado. Boards will be sold in a silent auction to benefit local charities. All bids must be received by 5:30PM on Friday, January 26th. Hobie is bringing a shaping area to booth #405 where Terry Martin and other talented individuals will demonstrate how boards are constructed.
Matix Clothing presents, The Lord of the Lines, an invite-only, ‘best line’ contest featuring a flat bar, manual pad and up-ledge box. Riders are given five tries to conquer the three obstacles in one line. The top three riders, who land the most technical and innovative lines will take home a piece of the $15,000 purse. The contest is set for Friday, January 26th at 2PM. The skate area will also feature a dynamic mini-ramp and street course, where pro riders will be tearing it up.
High-energy fashion shows at ASR provide retailers the chance to see first hand the upcoming fall 07 trends. The ASR Runway Show co-sponsored by Foam Magazine stages on Thursday and Friday at 2:00PM, with a mix of sportswear, footwear and accessories worn by Jet Set Agency models.
Goldbox Mission presented by Boost Mobile features 30 up-and-coming brands in a centrally located lounge on ASR’s floor. Fashion goes in action hourly Friday and Saturday in Goldbox Mission; Boost’s ‘Goldbox Looks’, features dancers modeling styles from emerging lifestyle brands that are exhibiting in the Goldbox area. Highlight: Goldbox, celebrates the energy of Goldbox brands with a party benefiting SurfAid International at the Altitude Bar in the Marriott Gaslamp, from 6-9PM on Friday.
The Board Retailers Association (BRA) and ASR have joined forces to make ASR more convenient for the thousands of retailers at ASR. The BRA Retail Resource Center, an open lounge setting in booth #1611, provides buyers with access to computer terminals, free Internet, floor maps, event schedules, beverages and other resources to enhance efficient buying at ASR. In addition, BRA staff can help retailers learn more about benefits and discounts that BRA members receive.
The end of work doesn’t mark the end of the day at ASR. Vestal will kick-off the ASR evening on Thursday, January 25th at 5:00 PM with special musical guest Valient Thorr. Vestal will continue the concert series with another surprise guest band Friday, January 26th at 5:30 PM. The DVS Beer Garden hosts their very own Turtledega Nights where some of the world’s fastest turtles race at 1:00 and 3:00 everyday.
