Boost Mobile Pro Starts Thursday

(San Clemente, CA, USA) The Boost Mobile Pro of Surfpresented by Quiksilver is set to commence tomorrow morning at LowerTrestles, California. Competition days have been locked in for theUS$250,000 World Championship Tournament (WCT) and wildcards selected formainland America’s most important surfing event.

An official welcoming party kicked off the festivities last night at the FoxSports Grill in The Irvin Spectrum. Invited surfers and VIPs came togetherfor the media launch, though it could be argued scores of beautifulwaitresses stole the limelight….

Contest director Mike Parson announced dates on which the Boost Mobile Proof Surf presented by Quiksilver will be held at Lower Trestles. Afterconsulting with Surfline – the world’s premier surf forecasters – September4th, 5th, 6th and 8th have been confirmed with great waves predicted. StatePark permit restrictions don’t allow competition to be run on Sunday the7th, so the event will climax on Monday the 8th.

Wildcards for the 2003 Boost Mobile Pro of Surf presented by Quiksilver werealso named. Former world #2’s Shane Beschen (from San Clemente, but nowliving in Hawaii) and Rob Machado (Cardiff, CA) are in the mix, togetherwith young standouts Bruce Irons (Kauai, Haw) and Dane Reynolds (CA). Withnothing to lose, these four pose real threats to the top WCT campaigners.

Another major announcement was Snapple’s sponsoring of ‘The Snapple BestDamn Airshow’. Eight invited surfers – including reigning world championAndy Irons and brother Bruce, last year’s Expression Session winner KellySlater (FL, USA), Taj Burrow (West Australia), Joel Parkinson (Gold Coast,Aus), wildcard Reynolds, as well as two main event surfers who land thebiggest aerials during the early rounds of competition – will make up theillustrious field.

‘The Best Damn Airshow’ will take place on Monday, September 8th in a45-minute heat. Snapple will award the winner US$20,000 in prizemoney anddonate an additional US$10,000 in the second place getters name and ‘TheBest Damn Airshow’ to the Friends of Jason Bogle Cancer Fund, in support ofthe Hawaiians’ battle against cancer.

Furthermore, Snapple beverages will be sold on the beach during the entiretournament with all proceeds being donated to the Friends of Jason BogleCancer Fund.
