While better known as a big wave spot, Isla Todos Santos off the coast of Baja is fun on just about any angle and size swell. Hans Hagen samples the less-deadly version of Killers. Photo: jackenglishphotography.com

I was out with Yadin Nicol during this session in Mainland Mexico and while it may not look too heavy in the photo, trust me when I tell you that there was a lot of water moving around and these waves were thick and unruly. Yadin, riding a 6'0", pretty much dominated—which is pretty easy to do when there're only two guys out. Photo: Checkwood

I normally don't feel bad for pro surfers, but in Joel Parkinson's case, the guy has one everything right, yet two significant injuries (one to his ankle last year and most recently a severe gash on the bottom of his foot) have put a damper on his World Title hopes in the prime of his career. Adrian "Ace" Buchan in one of those in between moments that you don't often see in surf photography. He most likely got shacked off his Aussie nuts a second after this shot was taken. Photo: Dr. Jones

There was one day back in early November 2009 where the Gums sandbar (in between Pipeline and Ehukai Beach Park) was absolutely going off it's face. Being a tad early in the season, it was mostly the local boys (like Tai Van Dyke here) out there in the twisting and sand-filled underground pits. Lucky for them, they surfed it all day because by the next day the sandbar that created all the fun was gone. Photo: Bielmann/SPL

I hate labeling a surfer "unidentified" but it's better than naming the wrong guy. Anyway, we've got some good people out there (you) who will tell us in the comment section who this Keramas barrel rider is, right? Photo: Dorsey

It's funny to think that ten years ago, this huge blow tail by Taj Burrow would be the most amazing thing ever, but nowadays it's just another trick that most kids do at whim. That's no knock on Taj either, that's just how it is as surfing progresses. Photo: Bielmann/SPL

Personally, I don't like this photo. What bugs me is that when you shoot from a high cliff or chopper you lose all perspective of how tall the wave is and how hollow it is. That said, Dusty Payne got this wave and not the two dick draggers on the shoulder, so that makes it a bit cooler. Photo: Bielmann/SPL

I love Laurie Towner. Not because he has the same name as my mother, but just because he's a super cool and chill, country kind of dude. Known for his mad skills in the big stuff, a lot of people don't realize how good the man with a woman's name is in the small stuff. Photo: Jones

If ever you need visual assistance in explaining what it is to "backdoor" a wave, simply pull up this photo of Jay "Bottle" Thompson at The Box in WA. When they ask why he's nicknamed "Bottle," take your pants off and, well, prepare to get laughed at. Photo: Jones.
