San Clemente, Calif. – April 26, 2005 – The prestigious Body GloveSurfbout Presented by Adio kicked off at Lower Trestles this morningunder blue skies and light offshore winds. Slightly inconsistent butglassy 3 to 4 foot waves had expectations running high as competitorschecked in for the opening rounds.

Igniting round one, Aaron Cormican gave an impressive performance, taking advantage of a nice left and a following right, he linked aseries of backside and frontside hooks that handily allowed him to takethe heat and advance into the next round.

In round 2, perhaps the best competition of the day, Sean Hayes and TedNavarro battled it out. Ultimately Navarro would prevail, posting an8.0 and a 9.5 for a combined heat score of 17.5. After hitting thebeach, Navarro commented on his performance. “I just felt really solidout there,” he said with a smile, “the waves were really good so it waspretty easy to surf well and post solid scores.”

In his second appearance of the day, Aaron Cormican came out lookingfired-up and weighed in with a performance that the judges were calling”state of the art” and “futuristic.” Cormican slammed a few solidscores with an exhaustive vertical face-attack and sealed the win, muchto the delight of the crowd, with a huge frontside air reverse.

Bumpy conditions prevailed throughout the afternoon as onshore windssteadily increased, however Lowers continued to hold its shape andstayed highly contestable for the remainder of the day. Performancelevels remained equally as high, especially during the final heat of theday when former Surfbout champ Rob Machado hit the water and dominatedwith a 9.5 and an 8.93, calmly and smoothly dispatching the competition.
