DC Shoes, Inc. announced today it has released pro surfer Andy Irons from his multi-year contract. Although the five-year relationship had been mutually beneficial, Andy’s footwear agreement with DC conflicts with his current apparel sponsor.
“Andy has been instrumental to DC’s surf category, said DC President Ken Block. “He’s a true professional and a champion in every sense of the word. It has been an honor to work with him and we wish him the best in the future.
The decision to release Irons was agreed upon by all parties and does not affect the status of his brother, professional surfer Bruce Irons, who remains on DC’s surf team roster. Furthermore, the decision was not based on Irons’ desire to represent another shoe company.
According to Billabong VP of Marketing Graham Stapelberg, “Andy came to the realization that he wanted to see out the rest of his career with the Billabong family, and we definitely feel that we can provide this incredible opportunity for him.”
