Final Event Set For HB Pro/Am Series

The Huntington Beach Pro/Am Surf Series sponsored by Miller Genuine Draft, Hurley International, and Ron Jon Surf Shop will be holding their final event of the year this weekend on October 14/15th @ the Southside of the Huntington Beach Pier.

This event is double rated and features a $3,000.00 1st place pro/am prize! For only 2 hours of actual surf time the 1st place winner in this weekends Pro/Am division will make $1,500.00 dollars an hour, the largest pro/am purse in surf series history!

Come watch current Pro/Am points leader Jeff Deffenbaugh and Richie Collins battle it out for the 1st place title! All surfers are competing for the 1st place overall points and will win round trip tickets to Indonesia (Pro/Am) and Cabo San Lucas (All Amateurs) and tons of prizes! If Deffenbaugh wins this weekend’s event he will walk away with $4,000.00, a round trip ticket to Indonesia and a $500 gift certificate to Ron Jon Surf Shop!

The Pro-Am format event will feature some of the world’s top professional surfers and local Southern California amateurs competing in Surf City USA. Top competitors at the South Side of the HB Pier will include: Jeff and Barry Deffenbaugh, Timmy Reyes, Chris Ward, Richie Collins, Seth Elmer , Dino Andino, Brad Gerlach, Jay Larson, Matt Archibold, Cordell Miller, Ryan Turner, Mike Hoisington, Jeff Hurley, Adam Virs, Billy Oswald, Ryan Sakal, Mike Todd, Micah Byrns, Duane Toole, Andy Hobson, Ben Will, Ted Navarro, Jason McDonald and more!!!

This final event will run for two days. Amateur surfers compete on Saturday in 7 different divisions: Super Groms (11 & under), Boys (12-14), Juniors (15-17), Mens (18-28), Masters (29 & up), Longboard (open), and Womens (open). Pro/Am surfers will compete on Sunday. Saturday and Sunday start times are at 7:00 am sharp and will run until 4:30 in the afternoon.

The H.B. Pro/Am Surf Series runs four man heats, with the top two advancing. The level of competition will increase throughout the day as the top competitors move along into the finals. The HB Pro/Am Surf Series is USSF Sanctioned (United States Surfing Federation). This means that surfers who reach the top 4 overall rated this weekend are eligible to surf in the United States Surfing Championships in July, 2001.

This event is open to all surfers. Due to limited space, competitors are encouraged to pre-register to guarantee their entry into the competition. The awards ceremony will be held Sunday the 15th @ 7:30pm. Location to be announced on the beach.
