Idle claims are just a waste of time — many events claim to be the best, but when the top 45 men surfers in the world tell you that you’re doing something right — it’s probably worth taking notice.? ?A few weeks ago, the ASP professional surfers were polled for their opinion on which was the best surf event on the calendar last year, and it was a clear cut decision. Globe’s first WCT event in Fiji came out on top and the challenge now is to make ’06 even better – better for the competitors and better for the hundreds of thousands who logged on to the web to watch last year’s event.? ?The 2006 Globe WCT Fiji will take place in the waters off Tavarua and Namotu from 21 May through to 2 June. Last year’s winner, seven times world champion, Kelly Slater will be back and the 2004 winner, Damien Hobgood, will be trying to take up where he left off.
“I was really bummed to miss last year’s event due to injury, Damien said. “Cloudbreak is just about the best left-hander in the world and when Restaurant’s is working, it’s just awesome. To have to lie at home on the couch in Florida last year and watch it on the web when the “perfect storm rolled through Tavarua, was not easy.
“This year I’m counting the days ’til I get there.? ?The Globe WCT Fiji will be webcast live via www.globe.tv each day with wild camera angles, highlights and replays, weather and scoring information, direct viewer interaction, celebrity guests, interviews and more. Globe and the ASP will be supplying full media services for TV via international satellite news and MP4 feeds, print, radio and webcast purposes during the event.
