Golden Glove Punches Through Frosty Surf

March 5, 2008 — Competitors from NY to NC slugged it out at the 3rd Annual Golden Glove Winter Surf Contest that was held at the Manasquan Inlet on Sat, March 1st. Surfers in 4 divisions battled in clean, waist to chest high peaks coming off the famous jetty. Close to 100 participants showed up as sun, snow, wind, and rain made for a classic NJ winter day.

There was a great vibe and contest director Dan Cotton, from Christian Surfers, commented, “We really wanted the event to be fun, organized, and as comfortable as possible for the competitors. The surfing was amazing and the people who came out were unbelievable. We were stoked.” One of the competitors that is no stranger to the Golden Glove is New Jersey’s Rob Kelly who has won the 16 & Up division three years in a row. “The Golden Glove is always a great time. It gives everyone something to look forward too in the middle of winter and the trophies are so raw,” said Kelly.

Special thanks to West Surfing, Monster Energy Drink, UM surfboards, Movement Clothing, Sector 9, Hoven, Truth, Surfing Artists International, CS Ocean City, CS Manasquan, Boro of Manasquan, MJCotton Photography, and all the shops and sites that helped get the word out.
