HIC Pro Starts In Big Sunset Beach Surf


Haleiwa, HAWAII – (November 3, 2010) — The 3-day HIC Pro, presented by Vans, will begin this morning in big surf at Sunset Beach on Oahu’s North Shore. All of the up-to-the-minute action can be followed on the live website. Wave face heights of 20 feet, with swell out of the north-west have set the stage for the first of three days of competition.

The HIC Pro features 112 surfers from seven nations including Japan, Brazil, Venezuela and Australia.

The HIC Pro signals the start of Hawaii’s $1.1 million surf season that also includes the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing series, November 12 through December 20.

As the final event of the ASP Hawaii regional tour, the HIC Pro presents the last opportunity for local surfers to qualify to compete against the world’s highest rated surfers at the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.

The HIC Pro and Vans Triple Crown round out the 2010 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Tour, crowning the regional and world champions respectively by the end of the year. The 2011 ASP tour then commences in Hawaii with events in January and February to close out the Hawaiian winter.
