In a traditional Hawaiian tribute, hundreds of surfers formed a circle offshore at Doheny State Beach on Sunday afternoon to say goodbye to Dick Baker, a mentor and friend to many in the surfing industry.

Baker, a San Clemente resident who was president of the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association and former chief executive of Ocean Pacific, died in mid-April after a two-year battle with cancer. He was 62.

“He touched so many lives,” said his wife, Una.
