Filmmaker Jack McCoy Meet and Greet at Puka Puka Gallery

Benefiting Rell Sunn Bronze Memorial and Save Honolua

Wednesday June 15th, Wailea, Maui – Award winning filmmaker Jack McCoy will be in person at the Puka Puka Gallery to meet and greet fans, friends and surfers this Friday on June 17th, 2011, from 5 pm to 7 pm. Jack’s new film A Deeper Shade Of Blue will be the Opening Night film at the Maui Film Festival and this visit to Puka Puka will be a chance for everyone to come meet Jack in a more intimate setting.

McCoy's newest film, A Deeper Shade of Blue premiers in Hawaii at the opening night of the Maui Film Festival Wednesday, June 15 at 8 PM. A Deeper Shade Of Blue is not a typical surf movie; it is a film about surfing's deepest roots first set in Hawaii. This is a big picture of a memorable story, beautifully told. It is a film about feeling good to be alive and it will make you feel good.

Jack McCoy's past film credits that have made him a star in the surf world are Storm Riders, Occy, and Blue Horizon. Most recently Sir Paul McCartney recruited Jack to create a music video for his previously unreleased track "Blue Sway." Written nearly 20 years ago, McCartney's never-before released song, "Blue Sway," will be available for the first time on the bonus audio disc of the special edition of McCartney II. The music video created by McCoy will also be featured on the bonus DVD included in the set. McCartney II will be released on June 14th by MPL and Concord Music Group and will also be premiered at the Maui Film Festival on June 19th.

Puka Puka Gallery presents the work of many talented Maui artists including the founder of Surfer Magazine John Severson. Jack has known John for many years and Jack is very excited to be able to be a part of the Gallery just for one night. The posters that Jack has custom made for the Festival measure 16 x 24 and are being sold for $20 and shows Jack with his underwater mini sub filming Manoa Drollet surfing underneath the wave. The look of the cinematography within the film is awe-inspiring. Proceeds from the poster signings and DVD's will go to the Rell Sunn Bronze Memorial Fund and Save Honolua.

Rell Sunn was one of the first female lifeguards in Hawaii and a professional surfer who spread aloha as she traveled the world surfing. A bronze statue is being planned for a tribute to this deeply admired lady who left us too soon due to cancer. Save Honolua.org is working to protect the area of Honolua Bay from development of a resort. This sacred site is a sanctuary for many special wildlife and a valued surf break that would be destroyed if this resort were to take place.
