The LandShark Pro 2010 is in the history books with 16 year-old Evan Geiselman winning both the LandShark Pro and the DNA Energy Junior Pro events. Concluding Sunday after five days of good weather and consistent waves Evan was clearly the week's top surfer winning a total of $7500 including $500 from the Western Atlantic Pro Series. Ninety-six contestants from New Jersey, Puerto Rico, California, North Carolina, Virginia, Trinidad, the Bahamas, and across Florida competed for over $20,000 in total prize money. Thirty four Junior Pros surfed in the $2500 DNA Energy Junior Pro.Go to the Ladies Of The Landshark Pro photo gallery
The Western Atlantic Pro Surf Series kicked off their 2010 season at the LandShark Pro adding $500 to the winner's purse. Head Judge Dylan Feindt and his team brought to the event the level of professionalism expected in international competition.
The week began with northeast winds kicking up good sized but challenging waves. As the event continued the winds calmed leaving behind the consistent surf Smyrna Inlet is famous for. Crowds were estimated around 15,000 during the five day event averaging between 3000-5000 per day.
A great time was had by all. Volusia County was very supportive of the event by granting organizers the permission to serve the sponsor's trademark LandShark Lager on the sand of the No Alcohol beaches of New Smyrna. The LandShark Lounge was open daily and VIP's were served ice cold lager while watching the professionals shred in the water. After their heats many of the surfers joined the other guests and hoisted a cold one to either celebrate or drown their results.
Saturday beach crowds were treated to a vibrant fashion show featuring Chama Swimwear by designer Sophia Beschen and Sunday's Expression Session was accompanied by live music. Expression Session contestants hit the waves after the finals of both the LandShark Pro and the DNA Energy Junior Pro entertaining the beach crowd with aerial displays. Fourteen year old Noah Schweizer took top honors in the event garnering a carbon fiber surfboard courtesy of Vision Surfboards and $100 cash. Two surfboards were raffled off to benefit the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Caitlin Terry won a 9'1" Pure Island Custom board and Christian Edwards won a Richenberg/Cumiskey board.
