The eighth and final event of the 2006 Matix/Sun Diego Pro/Am Surf Series will be held over Memorial Day weekend, May 27-28, 2006 at Ocean Beach Pier in San Diego, California. The Matix/Sun Diego Pro/Am, Adio Pro Junior and the Sobe/No Fear Airshow division will all start on Saturday with the finals on Sunday.
So far, the Matix/Sun Diego Pro/Am Surf Series has seen seven different winners at all seven events which has the overall surf series title race tighter than ever heading into this weekend’s final showdown. Number one rated Michel Flores holds a slim lead of 98 points over current number two-rated Teddy Navarro. With the final event being double rated and 2,000 points up for grabs, anyone in the top ten ratings has a shot at the overall title and the $2,500 that comes with it.
Shane Valiere currently leads the Adio Pro Junior Division and will be looking to secure the title this weekend as well. David Diaz has taken command of the Sobe/NoFear Airshow by winning the last two events and has a good lead on the field, but anything can happen and the overall title is still up for grabs. It’s all going to come down to the wire this weekend at O.B. Pier, don’t miss it!
The Surfline Surf Forecast for this weekend is as follows. It looks like we’ll see a pretty good dose of NW windswell this weekend, thanks to strong forecasted winds off the California coast as high pressure strengthens in the Eastern Pacific. There will also be a modest SW groundswell (210-220) that will steadily fade over the weekend, but should offer a few crossed up wedges at times, especially Saturday.
