Pro surfer Mick Fanning’s mother Elizabeth Osborne has announced the cause of her son, Peter Fanning’s death.
Peter, 43-years-old, died at home in New South Wales, Australia, Dec. 16 the night before his brother Mick was competing for a world title, which he did not win.
According to the Gold Coast Bulletin, Osborne released the findings of Peter’s autopsy which conclude he died from an enlarged heart.
His heart stopped because of a serious hyperthyroid problem, which Obsorne said, he had nearly died from in 2012.
Osborne told the Gold Coast Bulletin the father of three had been on heart medication and eating a healthy diet since the findings in 2012.
She said it was too difficult to talk about his death at length.
“I can't do it -- I am too devastated,” she told the Bulletin.
Peter’s funeral is being held tomorrow morning in New South Wales, which is 4:30 p.m. today Pacific Standard time.
Mick posted a touching tribute to his late brother on Instagram in which he wrote: “I am so grateful for the incredible love and well wishes that have come my way since learning of my eldest brother’s passing this morning.”
Mick has also lost another brother. In 1998, his brother Sean died in a car accident.
