Pro surfer Filipe Toledo expecting first child

It would seem that Brazilian pro surfer Filipe Toledo has been up to more than just rehabbing his injured groin since withdrawing from the season-opening Quiksilver Gold Coast Pro event on the World Surf League Championship Tour: The 20-year-old phenom took to Instagram on Saturday to announce that he and his girlfriend, model Ananda Marcal, are expecting their first child together.

In separate posts showing the couple on a vacation to Yosemite National Park with Toledo’s family, the young lovebirds shared their immense joy over Marcal’s pregnancy, and the forthcoming arrival of their daughter.

“That is how I feel [about] being a dad, @aanandamrp being a mom, my parents being grandma and grandpa, my grandma being a great-grandmother, and my brothers being uncles!” Toledo captioned his Instagram post showing his whole family in celebratory poses. “SOOOO HAPPY! Thanks God for [blessing] me with a little princess!”

Toledo also mentioned that he was happy to be able to share the news prior to returning home to Rio de Janeiro for the Oi Rio Pro, which is expected to be his first time surfing since his groin injury.

Toledo’s announcement comes exactly one week before his 21st birthday.

And while 21st birthdays don’t really carry the same weight in Brazilian culture as they do in the United States (Brazilians can legally drink at age 18), Toledo told GrindTV earlier this month that he’s definitely looking forward to ringing in his 21st birthday in style.

It looks like he now has another reason to celebrate.
