Costa Mesa’s Tiki Bar hosts a sneak peak at Sonny Miller’s These Colors Taste Like Music.
Friday night, July 12, Quiksilver put on a premiere party at Costa Mesa’s favorite dive venue the Tiki Bar to give the Southern California surf industry a sneak peak at an editor’s cut of the new Nathan Fletcher movie These Colors Taste Like Music. Among the 200-plus attendees were Volcom’s Troy Eckert, Surfer mag head honcho Kevin Meehan, Electric’s Mike Carter, Water magazine’s Steve Zeldin and Preston Murray, pro surfers Matt Beacham and Jason Magallanes, and the man of the hour, Nathan Fletcher. The night was full of music, pool, and a steady stream of drink tickets (thanks Taylor!), and the Tiki Bar was standing room only when the film started around 10:00 p.m. The crowd cheered as Nathan got spit out of barrels at Teahupo’o and landed some ridiculous airs.
Nathan and world-renown surf cinematographer Sonny Miller have spent over a year filming for this project, and the result is some really stunning footage of the younger Fletcher brother surfing, skating, and snowboarding around the globe. It’s a pretty huge honor to be chosen to have a signature film made about you (especially when you’re on the same team as Kelly Slater), and Nathan’s non-conformist attitude and approach to his sports makes him worth it. We are definitely feeling it, and we can’t wait to see the final edit, which Quiksilver tells us will be in stores by August 15. Make sure you get hold of a copy.
