Quiksilver Pro Round 1 Relocates To Duranbah Beach For 7:30am Start

DURANBAH BEACH, Australia (Saturday, February 28, 2009) – Event organizers at the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast presented by LG Mobile, event No. 1 of 10 on the 2009 ASP World Tour, have elected to relocate from the primary venue of Snapper Rocks to nearby Duranbah Beach for the commencement of Round 1, beginning at 7:30am.

"The surf is a bit small today on the points and the forecast for the coming days isn't looking too promising," Rod Brooks, Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast Contest Director, said. "We've decided to run Round 1 of the men's competition at Duranbah Beach this morning beginning at roughly 7am or 7:15am. There are some beautiful, little two-to-three foot waves rolling in at D'Bah and we look forward to a full day of competition."

Round 1 of the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast will provide the platform for a bevy of exciting and dramatic match-ups.

Kelly Slater (USA), 37, reigning and nine-time ASP World Champion, will begin his campaign for an unprecedented 10th Title at Duranbah Beach today. Slater will face Dayyan Neve (AUS), 30, and Daniel Wills (AUS) in Round 1 of competition.

Mick Fanning (AUS), 27, former ASP World Champion and two-time winner of the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast, will look to make it a hometown hat trick this season, beginning his '09 assault against Ben Dunn (AUS), 23, and Phillip MacDonald (AUS), 29, in Round 1 today.

The Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast pres. by LG Mobile will open up competition with Jeremy Flores (FRA), 20, Dean Morrison (AUS), 28, and Dustin Barca (HAW), 27, battling it out in Heat 1 of Round 1 starting at 7:30am.
