July 29, 2008: – – Maroubra Beach, NSW – – Widely regarded as the most important junior surfing event in NSW, the Quiksilver State Titles is set to go off with a bang, beginning next Wednesday, 30th July and running through to Sunday 3rd August at the twin towns of Forster/Tuncurry on the Mid North Coast.

The five day event will see up to 200 surfers battle it out across six divisions for prestigious State Titles and selection into the team that will represent NSW at the Australian Junior Titles scheduled for Margaret River in December. Littered with current and former World and Australian Junior Champions, as well as top-rated ASP Australasian pro juniors, this year's event illustrates the abundance of world-class talent within NSW.

“You cannot downplay the importance and prestige of The Quiksilver State Junior Titles. It is the gateway for our junior surfers to the Australian Junior Titles and ultimately the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Titles and 2008 heralds the uprising of new champions ready to make their mark," explains Peter Hunt, Event Director.

Historically, NSW surfers have gone on to dominate the Australian and ISA World Junior Titles highlighting the incredible depths of talent in the state. Byron Bay's Garrett Parkes is one such surfer. Parkes went on to claim the Quiksilver ISA World Championship in Portugal last year in the U/16 Boys division and is a clear favorite next week, his sights set firmly on repeating the feat in the blue ribbon U/18 division in 2008.

"I've been training really hard and surfing heaps in preparation for this event because I want to do really well in Forster to give myself every opportunity to surf again at the World's. I'm super focused," said Parkes.

Gunning for glory alongside Parkes in the blue ribbon Under 18 Boys division will be teen sensation Davey Cathels (North Narrabeen, NSW), renowned big-wave charger Dean Bowen (Gerroa, NSW) and reigning U/16 Australian Champion Max Ayshford (Maroubra, NSW) – a truly world class field.

"NSW definitely has the toughest state titles, you just need to look at those names," added Parkes. "So if you do well, it's a massive confidence boost going into the Australian title's knowing you've surfed well against quality opposition.”

The Under 18 Girls division is also littered with future stars, with Under 16 Australian Champion Philippa Anderson (Merewether, NSW) and South Coast sensation Kirby Wright (Culburra Beach, NSW) among those expected to shine.

Competing in the highly sought after Under 16 Boys division, whose honor roll reads like a who's who of Australian surfing, will be Jake Sylvester (Bar Beach, NSW), Cooper Chapman (North Narrabeen, NSW) and reigning Under 14 Boys NSW champion Matt Banting (Port Macquarie, NSW).

While in the Under 16 Girls it will be wonder-kid and defending champion Tyler Wright (Culburra Beach, NSW) pitted against a host of standouts including Ellie-Jean Coffey (Crescent Head, NSW) who will be ready to snatch the crown from Wright.
