Rogue Wave Sweeps Man Out To Sea

As reported on

A New Year’s Day walk along a beach north of San Francisco ended tragically on Tuesday when a man died after he and his wife were swept out to sea.

Three hours into the search, the Coast Guard located the man. The Marin County sheriff’s office said while “life saving measures” were attempted, they were unable to revive him and he died. The man’s wife and their dog were able to make it back to shore in Point Reyes, Calif., after also getting swept out into the cold water.

The incident was reported at 1 p.m. local time (4 p.m. ET) on New Year’s Day. Witnesses said the three were walking along the rocks when they were hit by a rogue wave.
