Shelter And Morrissey Share Ultimate Boarder Crown

GOLETA, Calif., March 22, 2010 – The stakes were high and the adrenaline was pumping during the third and final stage of the 3rd Annual Ultimate Boarder Championship powered by SanDisk. Like sharks circling their prey, the custom built half-pipe brought killer aerial moves and high octane tricks in front of a huge crowd of admiring fans at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino, in Reno, NV.

In an unprecedented outcome following an incredible week of competition the event resulted in a five-way tie for first place. After all of the scores were tallied, it was Mike Morrissey (Laguna Beach, Calif.) and Chad Shetler (Dana Point, Calif.) who shared the podium. The co-champions split the prize purse which was bumped up at the last minute from $25,000 to $30,000. In addition to the grand prize, the "Ultimate Boarders" received product from Kicker Audio, eight GB SanDisk Sansa Fuze MP3 Players, and Samsung Omnia II Phones. Also standing atop the podium were New Zealand's Kristian Phillip in second place and Australia's Bryce Young in third.

"It's an honor to share the stage with Mike and compete alongside these other highly talented athletes," said Chad Shetler.  "I was humbled to win the event last year and it means a lot being able to repeat my performance."

Christian Hosoi (Huntington Beach, Calif.), whose Team Hosoi dominated all week with Rob Machado (Cardiff, Calif.) winning surf and Brandon Cocard (Truckee, Calif.) winning snowboarding, solidified his team win by taking second in today's skate competition. Team Caballero and Team Val Surf placed second and third.

In a testament to the future generation of action sports athletes, the crowd was wowed by an aggressive Nathan Alegria (Reno, Nev.) of Team Eternal, who came in third today, but combined with his team's score led his team to the top of the podium. Team Spicy's Tom Schaar (Malibu, Calif.) was the individual winner in the skate competition. Final team standings were led by Team Eternal, followed by Team Spicy, and third Team Shake and Bake.

"This was by far our best year yet," said Tim Hoover, Founder and CEO of Ultimate Boarder. "Every year the athletes have stepped up their game and the caliber of performances just gets better and better overall. We had an incredible group of athletes, ideal conditions at all three stops, and a passionate fan base that kept the momentum going."
