Well, well, well… we’re just a month away from the launching of the 6th edition of Surfilm Festibal and we’d like to announce some of the latest arrivals to this year’s edition… We can assure it’s looking damned hot.
Garbage Island: We’ll be showing this documentary film -in O.V. With Spanish subtitles- directed by Lauren Cynamon, a prestigious underground short film director and editor of ‘Toxic’, the VBS.tv program.
It’ll be outstanding, as Lauren herself and Monica Hampton will be with us for the presentation. Monica Hampton is the producer of VBS.tv, the online tv channel of the VICE editorial group. She’s been working on the independent ….and not that independent film scene for 13 years now. Michael Moore proposed her to be the “Line Producer” of Farenheit 9/11 after he met her, and she was responsible of the project’s production during the 15 months it lasted.
Surfwise: Directed by the acknowledged Doug Pray -director of the classic documentary film Scratch, introducing the history of hip hop- who this time dives into the surfing world in a very particular way.… Surfwise follows the odyssey of 85-year-old, legendary surfer Dr. Dorian “Doc” Paskowitz, his wife Juliette, and their nine children—all of whom were home-schooled on the beaches of Southern California, Hawaii, Mexico and Israel; they surfed every day of their lives, and were forced to adhere to a strict diet and lifestyle of animals in the wild, by their passionate and demanding, health-conscious father. Their community was their family. They didn’t need money or have to pay bills or taxes. Their home was anywhere the crowded camper was parked.
What happens to eight brothers and a sister that are raised under such extraordinary circumstances? Surfwise is ultimately the story of what happens to a family when their father pursues his dreams and drags his family along for the ride.
Short film contest
Apparently there’s a bunch of people motivated by our call; we have been receiving quite a few very interesting short films. We’ll be showing them on Saturday the 14th, 6:30 at the Teatro Principal. Come and vote for your buddies’ film.
Friday 13 and Saturday 14 of June…Finally we’ll be enjoying Desparrame one of those crazy nights held by the music band Delorean and K**o. Desparrame is the itinerant club night run by the band Delorean and Dj K**O, something that cropped up as a response to a national music scene where most of the parties are limited to a very specific music style or scene. Desparrame features rock, hip hop or techno artists/bands within the same program, particularly highlighting styles that are still rare in our clubs, such as Baltimore Club or Dubstep.
Ultimately, it all comes down to sweating, dancing and shaking your butt.
This is Surfilm Festibal and Surfilm FestiBAILA, where passion, commitment and unlimited fun meet.
