The 5 worst big-wave surfing wipeouts of the past year

The World Surf League (WSL) announced the nominees for the remaining categories of the Big Wave Awards today including Female Performer of the Year, Male Performer of the Year and the fan-favorite, Wipeout of the Year.

The Male Performer of the Year nominees this year are: Pedro Calado, Trevor Sven Carlson, Shane Dorian, Aaron Gold, Mark Healey, Nic Lamb, Kai Lenny, Greg Long, Jamie Mitchell and Will Skudin. The Female Performer of the Year nominees are: Paige Alms, Emi Erickson, Bethany Hamilton, Keala Kennelly and Andrea Moller.

While those categories recognize the best of the best in big-wave surfers who are risking it all, let’s get down to what we all want to see: some big-wave wipeout carnage.

You can see all the nominees for the Big Wave Awards over on the WSL’s website. The WSL Big Wave Awards will take place on April 23 at the Grove Theater in Anaheim, California.

Now, to that sweet, sweet big-wave carnage and the nominees for Wipeout of the Year.
