The circus is coming to town

The 2011 version of the US Open of Surfing rolls in to town this week and the city of Huntington Beach gets ready to welcome more than 500,000 people along a 14-acre stretch of sand on the south side of the pier for a week of surf, skate, bmx, music, fashion and art.

As you would expect with everything happening in one place the city of Huntington Beach becomes complete organized chaos between the competition, the parties, the movie premieres and surf industry gatherings; pretty much everything you can imagine.

The most difficult task one faces when heading down to the US Open is trying to decide where to be and when. Trying to do it all never works out so do the smart thing and research the events/schedules determining your plan before hand.

A good place to start is with the king of HB Brett Simpson the reigning two-time US Open champion. Brett will be serving up some drinks (to the 21+ crowd) as a guest bartender at three different locations from Wednesday August 3rd through Friday August 6th.

Wednesday, August 3, 2011:

  • Longboards (217 Main Street) – 6 p.m.
  • 2nd Floor (126 Main Street) – 7 p.m.
  • Beachfront 301 (301 Main Street) – 8-8:30 p.m.

Thursday, August 4, 2011:

  • Hurricanes (200 Main St # 201) – 6 p.m.
  • Sharkeez (211 Main Street) – 7 p.m.
  • Aloha Grill (221 Main St # F) – 8-8:30 p.m.

Friday, August 5, 2011:

  • Fred’s Mexican Cafe (300 Pacific Coast Highway # 201) – 6 p.m.
  • Perq’s (117 Main Street) – 7 p.m.
  • Killarney Pub & Grill (209 Main Street) – 8-8:30 p.m.

An important piece of info to know is that Pacifico will be handing out thousands of $5 cab vouchers the final weekend of the tournament, along with providing bicycle-powered rickshaws to give free rides in the Main Street area, to make sure surfing fans get home safely.

Getting around Main Street is a difficult task during the final weekend of the US Open so make sure to keep you eyes open for the rickshaws cruising around town, we recommend jumping in and make your way to the premiere of Lost Atlas on Thursday night.

Also on Thursday some more non related surf events that you must attend includes Vanessa Hudgens and Tristan Wilds hosting the 2011 Hurley Walk the Walk National Championship with supermodel Marisa Miller as a judge in the competition.

This years music lineup includes the likes of MGMT, Jimmy Eat World, and The Sounds. Be sure to check the schedule and make sure to get there early, we’re not kidding the beach is a circus during the US Open.

That’s it for now, we will continue to bring you the must attend events happening off the beach as we hear about them.
