The WSA Secures The California Milk Processor Board As A Sponsor

WSA Prime Surf Series "GOT MILK?"!

The Western Surfing Association's WSA Prime Surf Series is pleased to announce our new presenting sponsor for the 2008/2009 and 2009/2010 seasons: The California Milk Processor Board (CMPB), creators of GOT MILK?.  The CMPB will be using WSA Prime Surf Series events to raise awareness of the many health benefits for active teens that are associated with drinking milk.  The CMPB sponsorship includes naming the series "The Pacsun WSA Prime Surf Series presented by GOT MILK?"  Additionally, it includes use of the "GOT MILK?" logo on event tents and banners, plus the new "White Gold" logo, from the CMPB's ad campaign aimed at teens. Also included is a graphic wrap of the new WSA Prime 18-foot equipment trailer that will be hauling event equipment up and down the coast.  GOT MILK? branding will also appear on competitor jerseys and T-shirts and on the WSA Prime website – Individual milk processors will be using WSA Prime surfing events in their areas to provide milk and chocolate milk samples to the competitors and spectators.

"Milk and WSA Prime are a perfect fit", says WSA Prime Director, Greg Cruse.  "We started WSA Prime with a clean slate and with the intention of producing the best amateur surf series possible.  We have raised the bar for amateur surfing with the use of Association of Surfing Professional (ASP) judges judging to ASP criteria; 4-person, 20-minute heats; computer scoring; and the best surf breaks on the West Coast", stated Cruse.  "We also wanted to raise the bar with our event sponsors.  Since WSA Prime is only for the best under 18-year old surfers on the coast, we were not interested in sponsorship from energy drink companies that spend so much money trying to influence our youth. Our first choice for a series sponsor was CMPB/GOT MILK? and we are stoked that they agree it is a perfect fit!"

California Milk Processor Board Executive Director, Steve James, agrees, "we are pleased to be associated with an excellent program like WSA Prime," said James.  "We see these amazing young athletes as the perfect advocates for milk.  We have always had the mothers in our court encouraging milk consumption, but we want the teens to choose milk when they go to a restaurant, the school cafeteria or a convenience store.  Milk builds strong bones and muscles that give these young surfers the strength and endurance they need to compete at the WSA Prime level.  Plus, according to a recent Surfing Magazine article, drinking milk raises your "Core Score"!"

About the CMPB
The California Milk Processor Board was established in 1993 to make milk more competitive and increase milk consumption in California.  Awareness of GOT MILK? is over 90% nationally and it is considered one of the most important and successful campaigns in history.  GOT MILK? is a federally registered trademark that has been licensed by the national dairy boards since 1995.  The CMPB's Spanish-language campaign began in 1994 using the tagline "Familia, Amor y Leche" (Family, Love and Milk).  The TOMA LECHE (Drink Milk) campaign replaced it in 2006, following a growing trend in Hispanic food advertising that uses wit and humor to reach audiences.  GOT MILK? gifts and recipes can be viewed at and  The CMPB is funded by all California milk processors and administered by the California Department of Food and Agriculture.  For more information on the CMPB go to or
