Tom Whitaker defeated Chris Ward to win the Drug Aware Pro Magaret River presented by O’Neill. It was the 28 year old Aussie’s first professional tour victory giving him 3,000 WQS points and $15,000.

“I’ve had a second on the ASP World Tour in Brazil and countless third places, but to finally win an event is so awesome. I feel like the monkey is finally off my back,” said Whitaker.

Both finalists are on the WCT and were surfing the QS’ contest because it is a 6 Star event. Wardo, who was surfing great, cruised to the finals, and really needed this since he did not compete in the WCT’s first event at Snapper. Look for Ward, get it forward, to be smoking people on the WQS this year because he may miss some WCT events.
