Billabong USA President Paul Naude speaks to the crowd gathered on the importance of SIMA’s Humanitarian and Environmental Funds.
SIMA hosted its 5th Annual Waterman’s Underwriting Party on Friday June 5 at Cyprus Shore Community Park in San Clemente, California. The party raised $50,000 through sponsorship opportunities and a live auction to help support SIMA’s annual Waterman’s Weekend. Attendees enjoyed hors d'oeuvres from San Clemente's well-known Vine restaurant, live acoustic music by Rachel McGoye, and of course plenty of drinks as the sun set over the park.
The lovely Rachel McGoye played a couple of acoustic sets at the event.
A crowd of the industry’s most influential executives mingles before the auction.
Billabong’s Paul Naude gives a speech urging attendees to support SIMA’s Environmental Fund. Naude says that nearly 30% of non-profits in America are expected to fold because of the current economy and it is SIMA’s goal to make sure that none of the organizations it supports are part of that percentage.
Overall the evening was a success, as SIMA met its $50,000 goal, which will go towards hosting Waterman’s Weekend on August 6-7 at the Ritz-Carlton in Dana Point, California. Waterman's Weekend is a two-day fundraising event held each August that exclusively benefits the SIMA Environmental Fund, a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation that awards grants to various environmental groups based on their dedication to preserving and protecting the world's oceans, beaches, and waves.
Larry Zucker of The Gavel Group auctioned off several items including a dinner for ten at The Vine in San Clemente and a trip to Hawaii.
