The energy was still high on the show floor in Orlando on Saturday, day three of Surf Expo, and the final day of the show. Retailers and buyers were finishing up strong at booths, many of which were still hopping with appointments mid-day, and we took a chance to explore the entire show floor, some of which we hadn’t had a chance to visit the previous few days. Here’s a look at the tail end of our evening on Friday, and who we were able to catch up with on Saturday, including Captain Fin, the O’Neill SVP of Sales and Marketing Steve Ward and crew, Seea, GSI, Go Pro, and more. Stay tuned for a show recap with feedback from retailers, brands, and Show Director Roy Turner.

Friday was just as busy as the first day of Surf Expo in Orlando, and it almost felt like Groundhogs Day, walking through crowded aisles and stopping in at busy booths writing orders. Here’s an initial sneak peek at what we saw, and there’s still much more on the way. We’re uploading 100+ photos just from this afternoon, which include looks at Ocean Minded, RVCA, Pura Vida, Katin USA, Sector 9, Filtrate, People’s Movmnt, SOLOShot, and more, so check back soon!
The action sports industry came together once again in the Sunshine State for three days of tradeshow mania, navigating the aisles of one of the largest footprints the show has ever had at the Orange County Convention Center. With more than 3,500 brands, 250,000 gross square feet of exhibit space, and 11,800 buyers on hand, day one of Surf Expo kicked off Thursday with lots of new additions, like the show’s Lifestyle section, which was sponsored this time around by Vestal.
According to Show Director Roy Turner, first-day attendance was 15 percent above last year’s day one tally. “The energy on the floor was great and enthusiasm was high,” says Turner. “It was a great start.”
The show is a staple for most East Coast retailers, and many that we spoke with today said the show is one of their busiest of the season, chock full of meetings and writing orders. Another round of new announcements swept the industry, as Roxy unveiled its new Outdoor Fitness collection, Surftech launched its new Owen Wright board series, and Firewire debuted its new Techo Grain technology, to name just a few that we overheard walking the aisles. We’ll have more on that once the show wraps up.
Stay tuned tomorrow and Saturday for photos and feedback from Show Director Roy Turner, as well as an exclusive interview about the new partnership with The Boardroom, which will bring the show to Surf Expo in Orlando this coming September 2013.
