The 34th annual Burton US Open competition, the longest running snowboarding competition in the world, kicks off on Tuesday, March 1st with the return of the Junior Jam halfpipe competition, featuring 15 of the best pipe-riding groms from around the world.
Some of the best riders in the world have made a name for themselves at past Burton US Open Junior Jams, including pros like Shaun White (USA), Ayumu Hirano (JPN), Chloe Kim (USA) and many more.
Athletes were invited based on their 2015 United States of America Snowboard and Freeski Association (USASA) standings, current form and past competitions.
The top boy and girl will earn a spot to compete in the semi-finals to be held on Thursday, March 3. Each rider will have three runs, best run counts.

In terms of the girls, we’d like to put our money on the Carlsbad grom–just because she’s from Transworld’s home turf. But we’re also pretty interested to see how a snowboarder from Hawaii can strut her skills. We know we’ll definitely be rooting for these kids once they’re up against the pro’s!
