After the recent victory at the California Coastal Commission last month, environmentalists and surfers alike breathed a sigh of temporary relief that Trestles, the world-famous Southern California break, would be safe for at least a few more years. But the controversial issue has been a constant up-hill battle for activists and as part of the crusade, MTV’s 2008 Street Team has even got involved, posting a Save Trestles video on the nework’s social activism site dubbed “Think.”
The proposed Highway 241 Toll Road, which would run through the center of San Onofre State Park, endangering a habitat reserve, is touted by the Transportation Corridor Agencies (TCA) and supported by Calif. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who decided Friday, March 21, not to reappoint his own brother-in-law, Bobby Shriver, and fellow Hollywood hero Clint Eastwood, to the state parks commission, according to an article published last week by the Los Angeles Times. Shriver and Eastwood publicly opposed the San Onofre toll road project and played a part in helping derail the plan from being passed at the state’s February coastal commission meeting, according to the LA Times report.
