Firewire Launches the Unibrow Model

PRESS RELEASE: Firewire is excited to add the Unibrow to its product line for 2013 and beyond. Shaped by San Diego's own Dan Mann, the Unibrow plays off the strength of the ultra-popular Dominator while adding an elevated level of performance.

Dan explains, "The Unibrow came up because my regular shortboards were too long. I couldn’t fit that long of a board into the parts of the wave I knew I could get into after surfing the Sweet and Baked Potato models. These shorter and wider style boards proved, beyond any doubt, that the length of your board does not need to relate to your height. Instead, the length needs to be connected to your ideal volume range, which is primarily a function of your weight, age and ability."

Dan continues, "I designed the Unibrow to be 4″ to 5″ longer than my Sweet Potato but with the same volume. It has a low volume rail that blends back nicely into a thinner-than-normal tail. I ride it 3 to 4″ shorter than my regular shortboard and its has heaps of drive and hold due to the deep single to double concave I need for good surf."

Look for the Unibrow to launch in our proven FST construction across the US and Australian markets by February of 2013 with additional markets to follow shortly thereafter. Additionally, the Unibrow will be offered in our new, eco-friendly TechnoGrain build in early April.

"Firewire believes that minor refinements to the shape of today's modern surfboards can only produce incremental performance benefits. Exponential improvements in performance require the ongoing development of new materials, construction methods and radical shape, which, in turn, will fuel new design success. In addition, with the increased eco-consciousness of today's consumer, Firewire is constantly refining our raw materials to decrease the environmental impact of our boards. Currently our surfboards emit only 2% of the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that conventional polyurethane boards do throughout their lifespan."
