Skate

Out of a field of 106 skaters, Alec Majerus won the skate park competition Sunday at the Gatorade Free Flow Tour's stop in Columbus, Ohio.

In his third Gatorade Free Flow Tour competition of the 2009 season, 14-year-old Majerus from Rochester, Minn. finally punched his ticket to the Finals, executing a kickflip front boardslide and a nollie nose blunt slide during the final jam session to earn the skate park victory at Flow Skatepark. Gage Smith was second and Joe Milanzo finished in third place.

The 106 competitors in Sunday's contest marked the highest attended event in the past four years and the third biggest contest field in the Gatorade Free Flow Tour's five-year history.

"Today's contest was really fun!" Majerus said. "I'm going to practice everyday between now and the Finals."

"This weekend was awesome," Flow owner Shannon Turner said. "Today's competition was amazing, and we definitely didn't expect such a huge turnout. It's great to see Gatorade getting into the action sports world and supporting skating at this level."

With the win, Majerus earns an automatic bid into the Gatorade Free Flow Tour Finals that will take place at the Dew Tour's Toyota Challenge, September 17-20, 2009.

Seventeen-year-old Dixon from Cocoa Beach, Fla. earned the skate park victory at MIA Skatepark after executing a kickflip front 50-50 on the hubba and a frontside bigspin front lipslide during the final jam session. Jamie Foy was second and D'Andre Pendergrass finished in third place.

"I'm so psyched to go back to Salt Lake!" Dixon said. "Last year was so much fun."

"This was the best contest we've had," MIA owner Ed Selego said. "The energy in the park was awesome, and the level of the skating was the best I've seen at a contest here. Kids are always asking when the next contest is and having Gatorade involved definitely helped the kids get excited."
