Tonino Copene, Co-Founder of The Foundry Distribution:
What are the three biggest trends you see shaping the market and what are you doing to meet them?
With L1 we are basically always trying to take what our staff and team wear everyday and make it quality outerwear.
What are the biggest changes in the outerwear market you’re seeing for this winter on the business front?
Everyone pulling back from over designing their outerwear, putting more focus on details and the less is more approach.
What fabrics, colors, and technologies are you focusing on for next season?
In L1 and Lita we have a vintage oxford fabric and a spray dye flannel – both unique looks and subtle textures. Also traditional fabrics and functional fabrics, pretty basic.
What are pricepoints doing?
With L1 we have brought down price points by removing any sort of unnecessary items.
How have you responded to the current market and the decrease in prebooks?
L1 has had been growing in prebooks, because of the fact that it is in demand and when it’s gone it’s gone.
Have you changed your distribution at all from last season? Why or why not?
We have in the fact that L1 is not for everyone, so we have been very careful to place it in shops that understand the direction of L1. It is not how traditional outerwear is done for the majority of snow sports shops.
