Pro surfer Josh Kerr joins Mountain Dew to tour California colleges

Mountain Dew® Expands California College Surf Club Program In 2015 With Professional Surfer Josh Kerr

Josh Kerr

SAN DIEGO, CALIF., August 31, 2015 – Mountain Dew® today announced the expansion of its California college surf club program outside of San Diego. In 2014, the brand teamed up with professional surfer and long-time San Diego resident Josh Kerr, currently ranked eighth in the world, to help launch a surf program that supported San Diego County college surf teams including the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and Cal State University San Marcos (CSUSM). This year, the surf club program will continue to expand outside of San Diego to support additional college surf teams including University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) and California State University Fullerton (CSUF). As a local Mountain Dew spokesperson and sponsored athlete, Kerr will help support the newly expanded program and interact with the participating surf teams both on and off campus through key events including autograph signings, film screenings, surf sessions and more.

"We are extremely happy to grow our college and surf community support in California and to have Josh back on board," said Matt Johnson, Marketing Director, Mountain Dew California. "After the success of last year's program, offering additional support to college clubs in other key California markets made perfect sense. We are eager to help out even more great surfing clubs and communities within California."

"I look forward to continuing this partnership with Mountain Dew and the local surf community," said Kerr. "Last year's program was a real success and I'm excited to expand the program this year beyond San Diego County to help continue the growth of the sport within additional college communities."

Mountain Dew will support four college clubs in California including UCSD, CSUSM, UCSB, and CSUF, by assisting with team dues, donating products and working together to design and create custom team gear in collaboration with Kerr and Rusty apparel. With the help of Kerr, this expanded program is designed to continue to generate buzz around surfing and the active, fun and progressive community that it represents.

As the DEW® college program continues to expand in California, select college snowboard teams will also be included in the overall support from Mountain Dew leading into the 2015/16 winter season. University of California Davis (UCD) and Fresno State University (FSU) will also be involved in the program this year with the help of Mountain Dew athlete and professional snowboarder Danny Davis.
