Rossignol Partners With MIPS To Create Safer Snow Helmets

The Pursuit is an ultra-lightweight helmet designed to keep all-mountain skiers comfortable and safe. The RH2, the latest All Snow helmet from Rossignol, is an extremely lightweight product, weighing only 420G in it's MIPS version, that complies with both CE 1077:2007 and ASTM 2040 norms. It features an in-mould construction, and both passive and active ventilation (with a foldable padding).

The Rossignol helmets will be on display the Rossignol booth at SIA in Denver (Booth 3719), January 31st-February 3rd and at ISPO in Munich (Hall A1 Booth 200), February 3-6.

MIPS Brain Protection System

The MIPS Brain Protection system was developed by a Swedish neuroscientist to address angled impact and rotational forces to the brain. Concussions and brain injuries are often caused by rotational violence to the brain during a head impact. MIPS BPS utilizes a low friction layer to absorb much of the energy created by oblique blows to the head. By mimicking the brain's own protective mechanisms, MIPS can significantly minimize brain injuries in connection with angled impacts and rotational violence. The Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) of Sweden has conducted tests concluding MIPS helmets can significantly minimize brain injuries--up to 50 percent in some studies.

The pictures show the deformation of the brain from an angled impact when the user is wearing a conventional helmet and a helmet with MIPS technology. Red color indicates more serious damage to the brain.
