Editor’s Note: 5Boro’s much anticipated Join or Die premiered last Thursday in NYC and we were so hyped on it we had two correspondents on the scene to bring you the skinny.
On Thursday, February 16 5Boro held the world premiere of its newest video, Join or Die, in New York City. The screening was held at Santos Party House in China Town and was packed wall to wall with fans from all over the tri-state area. 5boro’s Steve Rodriguez, Mark Nardelli, and Tombo Colobraro all took the stage before the screening to thank event sponsors Red Bull & Supra, along with everyone who was involved in making the video. – Brad Clarke
After five long years of dedicated filming the 5Boro crew pulled together the aptly named video, Join or Die, just in time to hype up the East Coast as winter’s weather begins to break. The much anticipated video drew hundreds of loyal fans, wrapping up two city blocks in lines. 5boro founder and owner Steve Rodriguez ran the show, constantly slapping fives with everyone from local skate rats to some of the most notable names in the East Coast skate community.
After a shaky start with a failed DVD player, the video was back up and running to the roars of a packed house. 5boro’s newest pro Willy Akers started things off with a healthy mix of raw ripping and tech. Also making a definite impression on the crowd and crew were Kevin Rodriguez and Guillaume Dulout, both killing it with heavy tricks on some of NYC’s most well known spots. But the ender came from none other than fellow newcomer to 5boro’s pro rankings Joe Tookmanian. His part was banger after tech banger, leaving the crowd asking for nothing more.
In the end, the night was a massive success. Join or Die showcased the gnarliest skating on some of the roughest streets in NYC and beyond, further cementing 5boro in the minds of the greater skateboard community. – Graham Hiemstra
