Aspen Names Darch Communications Director

ASPEN/SNOWMASS VILLAGE, Colo. — Aspen Skiing Company ( has named Susan Darch director of communications. The appointment was announced by Aspen Skiing Company President and Chief Executive Officer Pat O’Donnell and is effective immediately. As director of communications, Darch will be responsible for the development and implementation of the company’s worldwide public relations efforts.

“Susan has developed strong relationships with industry media and top winter sports athletes and has brought the two together to promote our industry in a unique and exciting way,” said John Norton, chief operating officer, Aspen Skiing Company. “We think her experience will complement our new marketing efforts and we’re psyched to have her on the team.”

Darch joins the communications team of Jeff Hanle, Melissa Rhines and Jessica Weber. Prior to joining Aspen Skiing Company, Darch spent six years leading the public relations and communications department at Intrawest Corporation’s Whistler/Blackcomb. At Whistler/Blackcomb, Darch managed communications during the merger of Whistler and Blackcomb mountains under Intrawest, developed and implemented plans for hosting the industry’s elite film-makers, photographers, writers and athletes and helped manage communications during Whistler’s FIS world cup events, the annual World Ski & Snowboard Festival, the 1998 Royal Family visit and the homecoming of 1998 Gold Medalist snowboarder Ross Rebagliati.

Darch holds a master of business administration in public relations and communications management from Royal Roads University in Victoria, BC, a Bachelor of Public Relations Degree from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia and a diploma in public relations from Mount Royal College, Calgary, Alberta. Darch, originally of Alberta, Canada has also held communications positions from Halifax, Nova Scotia to Vancouver, BC. She is a member of the National Ski Journalists Association, International Association of Business Communicators and Canadian Public Relations Society among others.

Aspen Skiing Company operates the four mountains in the Aspen/Snowmass area – Snowmass, Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk – as well as the award-winning Ski & Snowboard Schools of Aspen.
